The importance of Positioning for Respiration with Peter Maindal

When faced with a service user with respiratory difficulties, you want to make them as comfortable as possible and make it as easy as possible for them to get the required amount of oxygen.

In reality, this can be a challenge to achieve. Positioning is often overlooked as an effective way to assist with respiratory problems.

Watch this Webinar from Friday 25th September as Physiotherapist Peter Maindal shows us how and when to use positioning to improve respiratory functions.

Meeting complex care needs in the community with Anita Rush MSC DIP RGN

Increasingly, you're faced with service users with more complex needs that you're expected to deal with effectively in the community.

What's needed is a person-centred systems approach to ensure a holistic package of care is implemented that is effective and meets the many needs of the service user.

Watch this Webinar from Friday 14th August as Anita Rush - registered nurse and ergonomist - discusses this subject in more detail.

Friday 31st July

Manual handling with children - encouraging independence, cooperation and engagement

When caring for paediatrics, you're faced with different challenges from those you face when caring for adults.

Carole Johnson - chartered physiotherapist and paediatric expert - joined us on Friday 31st July 2020 for the Felgains Friday Training Webinar.

We looked at ways to encourage staff and family to make the manual handling task a positive experience for all involved and considered ways to use strategy, equipment and acceptance criteria to achieve this. Examples were given in therapy, personal care and general moving and handling scenarios.

Friday 24th July

Managing tissue viability with Jacqui Fletcher

Many of the patients/service users we care for, either have or are at risk of pressure damage and other wounds. Whatever our role, we're all in this together and we all need to ensure we're maximising the use of clinical skills whilst minimising the number of contacts the patient receives.

This is daunting if it's not your direct area of expertise. How do I do skin assessments? How do I do mobility assessments? What is the role of repositioning in tissue viability?

Watch this webinar from Friday 24th July as Jacqui Fletcher, Independent Nurse Consultant and Editor at Wounds UK, answers all these questions and more in the Felgains Friday Webinar.

Ergonomic Tools for Equipment Justification with Gill Creighton OT

You've assessed a service user and identified the needed equipment. In an ideal world, given your professional knowledge, you would be immediately able to access that equipment.

In the real world, your next step is usually forming a business case where you have to justify your decision. This is often a long and difficult process.

Watch this recording from Friday 10th July to follow independent OT Gill Creighton as she goes through how to use ergonomic tools when creating a business case for getting equipment approved.

Friday 3rd July

Managing Plus Sized Patients with Anita Rush MSC DIP RGN

Watch this webinar from Friday 3rd July to find the answer to all these questions and more with plus size management specialist Anita Rush MSC DIP RGN.

Friday 26th June

Falls Forum with James Gough from Welsh Ambulance

Falls are a problem whatever care setting you work in. Is the fallen person safe to lift? Will you be liable if you lift someone who has an injury? Are you doing the right thing leaving someone on the floor while you wait for an ambulance?

Watch this recording of the webinar to hear James Gough - Falls Improvement Lead from Welsh Ambulance Service - answer all these questions, and to watch a demonstration of the solution for lifting a fallen person from the floor - the Raizer II Emergency Lifting Chair.

Friday 19th June

Benefits of good positioning with Physio Peter Maindal

There are many situations in which positioning should be an area of great attention - particularly bedridden clients with reduced mobility, those with pressure ulcer risk, clients being washed in bed and restless or unstable clients.
Unfortunately, positioning is often considered to be complicated and as a task best left to expe
rts. This is unfortunate because positioning does not require any specialised training or knowledge.
Watch this recording of the webinar to see Physiotherapist Peter Maindal, original inventor of the LEJRELET positioning cushions, explain how simple it can be and the far-reaching benefits you can achieve with correct positioning.

Friday 12th June

Who the VENDLET is for, how to use and when to specify

As the availability of caregivers becomes more scarce and case loads grow, the level of care people need remains the same.

With complex cases, it can sometimes be a challenge to manage pressure care and manual handing needs without numerous visits and unsuccessful trials of equipment. You're faced with needing to specify the best products in the shortest timescales with the least amount of social contact.

Watch this recording of the webinar to learn about the VENDLET V5S Patient Turning System - who it's for, how to use and when to specify.

Friday 5th June

Raizer II Emergency Lifting Chair – who it's for, how to use and when to specify

Frequent fallers can be a challenge and put extra pressure on ambulance services and care facilities.  You're faced with situations where someone needs to be assisted off the floor without risk to themselves or to the caregiver.

Watch this recording of the webinar to learn about the Raizer II Emergency Lifting Chair - who it's for, how to use and when to specify.

Friday 29th May

LEJRELET Positioning Cushions - what they are and how to use them

Stable, comfortable and pressure-relieving positioning in bed is often a challenge when you're faced with someone with low tone, involuntary movement, skin integrity issues etc.

Good positioning is stable positioning. The simpler the better.

The Lejrelet positioning support system makes it easy for caregivers to manage positioning. The size and shape of the cushions provide great flexibility, so a single cushion can be used for several purposes – both individually and in combination with others.

Watch this recording of the webinar to learn what the system is and many of its numerous uses.
